Every year JemCon is excited to host special guests and special guest speakers!
We are excited to share with you the special guests for JemCon 2020!
If you’re a child of the 80s and 90s, there probably isn’t a cartoon that you watched that doesn’t have Christy Marx’s influence. Christy is an award-winning scriptwriter and video game designer who worked for Sunbow Productions, Marvel Entertainment and other studios as a writer and story editor for many beloved brands. In addition to Jem and the Holograms, she worked on other cartoon hits such as G.I. Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, and Conan the Adventurer. With co-writer and husband, Randy Littlejohn, their credits include X-Men, Stargate, and He-Man. In live-action, she wrote for Babylon 5 and Twilight Zone, and was Executive Story Editor/writer on Hypernauts.
She designed adventure games for Sierra On-Line, has written for numerous games, and spent six years at Zynga as a Principal Game Designer/Narrative Designer. She’s written for multiple media and established brands, including the well-known Birds of Prey DC Comics series. In 2000, she was awarded the Animation Writers Caucus Animation Award from the Writers Guild of America for her contribution to the field of animation writing. She is the author of Writing for Animation, Comics, and Games. Christy is ecstatic to be celebrating the 35th anniversary of Jem by attending the 16th annual JemCon.
Carla Reiss is the woman behind many of the iconic fashions on the Jem toy line. She credits Jem to helping get her into middle design management back in the mid-eighties. She worked on both soft doll and plush items and later became a real-life Jerrica Benton as a Design Director with seven designers working under her. Her team worked on all the fashions marketed under the Hasbro and Playskool brands (including all the Jem fashions!)
She and her husband (who was the Senior Design Director for boys’ toy design at Hasbro) left to pursue their own design services business, Reiss Design Associates, which continues to this day. Together they have done toy designs for numerous companies and projects, including American Girl, Disney, Rugrats, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Simpsons, Sesame Street and more.
She is very excited to be attending her very first JemCon and can’t wait to meet all the truly outrageous fans.
